At PALM, everything we do is connected to the island and the people who make this place what it is. The ocean, the jungle, the island time, they’re not just part of the experience, they are the experience. And with that comes a responsibility to care for it all, for both us as tourist businesses and travellers.
We’re aware that we are all guests on this island, and we’re committed to preserving and protecting these surroundings, making sure we give back as much as we take. We believe sustainability is about simple, conscious choices made every day.
Here’s ours: we source as much as possible locally, to reduce our carbon footprint and to support the local community economically. Each morning, we visit the vegetable markets to handpick fresh, seasonal produce. Our fish comes directly from the fishermen at Mirissa fish market, often caught just hours before it reaches the kitchen. In the rooms, you’ll find body and haircare products made by a small supplier in Colombo, bottled by us in refillable glass containers (also available in our store if you'd like to take a piece of PALM home with you). And throughout the property, we’ve eliminated plastic bottles entirely, offering filtered water in glass bottles instead.
We invite our guests to join us in these efforts, by using water and electricity mindfully, and supporting local makers and fair-trade businesses during their stay. Together, these small actions help preserve the fragile balance that makes Sri Lanka so special.
And through the PALM Foundation, we’re able to extend this care even further: supporting community projects, local education, and environmental initiatives that directly benefit the people and the place we call home.
