A Water State of Mind

A WATER STATE OF MIND

Or: our top 5 water activities around Ahangama

Jump between surf, secret swims, and slow boat rides. This coast is made for moving with the water. Here’s how to spend your days in and around the water in Ahangama.

1. Swimming in Secret Coves
Tucked between the better-known beaches are little sandy corners where the water is calm, even in monsoon season. Perfect for an early morning swim or an afternoon dip, far from the crowds. Some take a bit of effort to find but that’s half the charm.

2. Surfing
Between November and May, you can surf a different break every day. From beginner-friendly Kabalana to longboard peelers and the occasional barrels, there’s something for everyone. Visiting during the monsoon? Just hop in a tuk tuk to Weligama, where the waves roll in year-round.

3. Sailing Off Mirissa
A catamaran out of Mirissa is one of the best ways to see this coast from another angle. Sip cocktails on deck, jump into clear water, and if you’re lucky, spot a whale or two in the distance.

4. Koggala Lake Tour
Take a boat ride through Koggala Lake’s mangrove tunnels and quiet islands. Watch cinnamon being peeled by hand, or step onto a temple island that smells of incense and old stories.

5. Poolside at PALM
Or skip all of that and spend the day poolside at PALM, surrounded by jungle sounds and open skies. Swim, nap, read, order something cold. No planning required
